Grating-based X-ray dark-field imaging

PhD Project: Grating interferometry based dark field imaging setup for mammography

The mechanism of scattering caused by the micron structure in human breast, for example tiny tumorous tissue or even calcification point in mm size scale , which is irradiated by X-ray, provides a  possibility of imaging the micro structure inside human breast. Even through the field of dark field imaging (not dark field microscopy) is still a brand-new research area for medical imaging, grating interferometry is widely used to generate scattered radiation signal. Two gratings, one phase grating and one analyzer grating, are responsible for generating phase difference and enlarging the scattered signal, separately. Some researchers has gotten dark field image of a healthy mouse in vivo, from which the fur structure is visible, which is invisible from conventional projection X-ray image.
